Menu design is a meticulous art form that merges psychology and aesthetics. The strategic placement of dishes, coupled with the careful selection and implementation of typography within defined constraints, offers a unique challenge that appeals to my perfectionist nature.
After expressing interest in designing a menu for local chef Shawn Brighton, I was thrilled when he commissioned me to create menus and boards for his new delivery pizzeria, DeMo Pizza. Faced with a tight two-week deadline and a low-resolution, generic logo, I developed a fresh, modern design concept.
To avoid the typical heavy Italian aesthetic, I opted for a vibrant color palette featuring yellow and green hues. To ensure optimal print quality and easy assembly, the delivery menus were designed with mostly white backgrounds and clear folding guides.
